Having the opportunity to resurrect this celebrated American icon struck the
interests of all of our technicians.
A Ford Woodie restoration with flat head V8 power to be returned to its original
color, Sea Foam Green was not unlike some of the restorations we’ve done in the
past. This project arrived disassembled with more of the parts in the tow truck
than on the car.
On the positive side we received “New Old Stock” wood panels collected by the
previous owner and restorer.
With the flat head engine in the machine shop and body work on hold until floor
pans could be acquired, we received (and returned) pans from numerous
distributors who thought their pan would fit a '49 Woody. Coupe and sedan pans
aren't even close, guys!
A very small, and I might add hard to find, distributor delivered just prior to
our shop fabricating floor pans to fit. The body has now been acid dipped and
electro coated, and the rotisserie body work is in progress.
We are well on our way to completely restoring this vehicle back into a very
desirable surfboard hauling beach machine… the first SUV?
